Artist Statement

“Art is what makes life more interesting than art “
(Robert Filliou ,1970, ‘Interview’, quoted in Robert Filliou: Génie sans talent, 2004)

“..the line between art and life should be kept as fluid, and perhaps indistinct, as possible”
(Allan Kaprow, 1966, Assemblages, Environments and Happenings)
Fascinated by the debris of life, traces of existence and memory I am a keen collector of other people’s belongings. Collecting may be an attempt to fill the void. We hoard and store things to pass time, to construct identity and create history in the hope to mark the world with signs which will perpetuate our existence long after we are dead and gone.

Collect too much stuff, however, and we might as well have nothing at all.

In today’s mass information society we are bombarded with an unmanageable amount of images, data, signs and symbols. The computer’s ever-expanding capacity to store information seems to make it only that much harder to know what to keep and what to delete. This creates an abundance of things we no longer use. We have everything…..yet we have nothing. We are everywhere and we are nowhere. I am interested in the relationship between everything and nothing.
